There’s a lot of talking about Wimbledon, starting this Monday (if you live in the UK that is), and amongst the popular foodie topics, straight out of #NationalCreamTeaDay (don’t get me started on that debate!), it’s now all about strawberries and cream. So…I thought I’d go and look for a…
You know what? I didn’t find much, aside from a lot of naked cakes bien sur. This was rather refreshing and exciting. Why exciting? Well, there are so many wedding ideas and big trends out there, I think sometimes it’s hard to find unusual ideas, something a little …quirky. So why not go Strawberrylicious?
There are so many ways you can use this wedding theme…
I have looked at 3 ways you can play around with this idea, starting from your wedding cake and favours.
Classic and chic
Opt for a grand Fraisier, an uber classic French patisserie cake, made from a very light sponge, a rich custard based buttercream and lots of fresh strawberries, expertly arranged, traditionally, around the outside of your cake so they stand in a neat row all around your cake. To add real WOW! factor, go for a tiered fraisier like this one shown on Le Meilleur Du Chef, a fantastic site for all things cakes and Patisserie…
Or inject a little fun into a very classic cake, facon Chez Bogato (one of my favourite Patisseries in Paris. Seriously if you have a chance, pay them a visit.)
Quirky with attitude
How about a WHOLE wedding dessert table, dedicated to strawberries?
Imagine a few deconstructed single tiered fraisiers like this one below,. I made this for a client recently for her wedding, as she didn’t want a tiered cake and loved the Fraisier recipe. If you have 3 or 4 single tier cakes, perhaps you’ll want different texture finish on each; propped up on porcelain cake stands, with a few “French brocante” props, distressed wooden boxes and French linen (I offer a full dessert table styling and prop hiring service from Fairy HQ); then, scattered around, small trays of… strawberries in chocolate tuxedo. And teeny and very very cute strawberries and cream mini cream tea favours. I know, that National Crem Tea Day really got stuck in my mind…but just think about the total magic moment for you and your guests.
Semi naked wedding cakes are very much still trending high in2017. Why not make a statement and having yours finished jusy with tumbling, and tumbling, and tumbling down with strawberries. And serve your cake with jugs of cream….Yummy!
And if you are not too keen on a wedding cake, you can always opt for a …strawberry pyramid (with dipping bowls of cream …and chocolate sauce?)
Now of course, I realise that sorting out your wedding cake is not the only (and perhaps first) consideration. So here are a few more ideas for other areas of your wedding planning:
Drinks – A glass of Pimm’s is very much synonym with July and Wimbledon in the UK; or how about a Grand Champagne cocktail?
Bridemaid dresses – going with bright red bridesmaid dresses might be a little too daunting for a lot of people. However, how about assorted floral dresses with a hint of red? Like this example staight our of ASOS book on Pinterest…
Wedding colour palette – Crisp white and very pale green palette, with burst of vivid red (as little or as much as you like really). Like this “Strawberry at my wedding” idea from mariage.com?
